‘Yellow State of Mind’

The reason I wore a dress and our kitchen travelled to the ’50s has been revealed! Jeanine just posted her ‘Yellow State of Mind’ aka Madwoman in the Kitchen photoshoot on Instagram (@jeanine.celine).

The concept is inspired by Charlotte Perkins Gillman’s ‘The Yellow Wallpaper’ and I played the role of a ‘50s woman trying to balance her life between house chores and insanity. My escape? Writing. But it has to be done when the husband is not home and to find the courage I have to drink. When you need to escape from your own life, and no one takes you seriously, you must develop coping mechanisms. Toxic, in this case. The final stop for the madwoman in the kitchen is becoming one with the distorted image in her mind.

Things have changed in the last 70-odd years, but sometimes women and even men are still stuck in similar situations. It’s not always the home or the family, it could be work as well or anything else. Mental health is important and we need to keep talking about it.
