Writing runs in the family

Today I finished reading my Uncle’s first book. I read half of it last year (and wrote about it here), but then I took a break because I had a never-ending reading list. Now I finished its second part too and… boy, oh boy, this has been a rollercoaster. I enjoyed every second of it!

I was saying last year that the book is ‘a historical young adult novel’ with ‘some gothic and fantasy elements plus a bit of romance’. Also, I need to add the extremely relevant discussions about history, religion/faith, feminism, diversity, and many more that my Uncle handles exceptionally well. The second part took an incredibly dark turn that was so well balanced with the world building from the first part. I was gonna read it on public transport as I did with the first part, but it got me so hooked that I couldn’t stop. It took me less than a week to finish it.

As an unofficial official review, like the ones that you see on the back cover of books, I would say this:

The balance between reality and fiction is so fine that everything seems completely natural, no questions asked. What starts as a relaxed historical fantasy takes an unexpected dark turn that grabs your attention and won’t let go until the very end. And the ending is simply… wunderbar!

I really hope my Uncle decides to go ahead and publish this novel. In the meantime, he wrote another one - a SciFi this time. I can’t wait to read it!
