Writer & Youth Worker - Literally

Today I was a writer and then a youth worker (student). In this order. Literally. I wasn’t expecting to be too productive today, but I had an idea for the next ‘episode’ in the novel. I noted that. I wanted to check something in the draft, so I opened my writing document. And then I used the ‘might as well’ method → might as well write another chapter while I’m here. I wrote 1025 words.

After that, I stepped into my youth work/student shoes. A few weeks ago I emailed one of my future MA profs for some reading recommendations. He sent me back two titles that I promptly ordered and they arrived right on my graduation day. Ain’t no rest for the nerd.

The first one that I’m reading is ‘Gramsci’s Common Sense: Inequality and Its Narratives’ by Kate Crehan. She uses Antonio Gramsci's ‘Prison Notebooks’ to discuss concepts surrounding (you guessed it) inequality. What I find super interesting is that Gramsci was actually a Marxist and a founding member of the Communist Party of Italy. However, his theories and writing are valuable regardless of who he was. This is an example of open-mindedness. So far, choosing Goldsmiths Uni appears to be a good decision.
