Won’t stop learning
As a youth worker, you need to have a good tool kit and to be prepared for any situation. Now, what ‘any situation’ might mean, depends on your practice. With DEIS and my passion for open-access youth work, any situation really means ANYthing you can imagine. So, I’m learning. And I won’t ever stop learning.
Self-harm has been a major issue among young people for quite a few years now. I had friends who were cutting or engaging in dangerous behaviours. But self-harm did not stop with my generation and two years of isolation had a terrible impact on young people’s mental health. Moreover, too many ‘adults’ still label self-harm and suicidal thoughts as ‘attention seeking’, instead of seeing it as a genuine cry for help.
This is why I started a free online LVL 2 course in Self-Harm & Suicide Prevention. This course is (1) a way for me to increase my confidence or validate my knowledge and (2) a way to gather some tools. Honestly, I hope I never ever have to use the content of this course… but we live in a… society…
