What to do with misery? (part 1)
PART ONE - The intense age of teenage
We are young, teenagers to be more specific. We all have our problems and our dramas and we all need to know that we are not alone.
We are living the most intense time of our lives. It is the time of beginnings. First love, first kiss, first job, first break up, first, first, first. Nothing will ever feel as intense as now and this has been proved by science because right now we are in bloom. Our brains are going crazy. We can be the happiest now and the most miserable people on earth in less than half an hour.
Everything we feel right now is overwhelming and we cannot really control that. We don’t know how to control that and sometimes we don’t even want to. Happiness is overwhelming, but so is misery. And sometimes we like misery. It can make people notice us, we get their attention, but it can also go unnoticed and some of us can even make it feel comfortable. However, the stronger the misery, the more beautiful the happiness that comes afterwards. It’s simply the laws of physics. Who doesn’t enjoy a bit of sunshine after the most violent storm?
It is important to cherish those moments of happiness. They will most probably be useful in the darkest moments because one smile can change your entire mood. For that, we need to live in the present and let ourselves get overwhelmed. But what shall we do when overwhelming happiness suddenly changes to overwhelming misery, when the beautiful dream becomes a nightmare? We learn from it. It is unbelievable how many lessons are hidden in misery.
I am not saying that we ought to suffer. No. If we live with our eyes open we can probably learn just as much from happiness. But, if misery decides to visit us, we should let her in, have a coffee with her, see what she came to teach us.
And this is the blessing and the curse of teenage. Misery and happiness will both want to befriend us. We are vulnerable so they both like to take advantage of us and we will inevitably let them take control. They’re both so cunning. You never know which one will wake you up tomorrow, but only by taking this chance you can learn something or create a memory, or, why not, both.
