Theatre (online)

Today I went to the theatre. By that I mean I sat on the sofa in the living room and watched the 2020 production of Chekhov’s ‘Uncle Vanya’.

This was really an interesting experience. I wouldn’t exchange going to the theatre with this. I usually pay extra attention to what other characters are doing while one is speaking, for example. In this recorded version, I could only look at whoever the camera wanted to show me. Also, theatre is meant to be a shared experience. With an audience you laugh, you grasp, you’re intrigued - you’re all one.

Other than that, I really enjoyed the play. I’m just now gathering all my thoughts for the performance analysis I’ll have to write on it. I’m starting to like Chekhov’s work more and more. Soon I’ll have to get more of his texts.
