The magic of the "coffee break"
I had to go to a Student Engagement training session at uni. What? Why? Because I'm the DSC (Departmental Student Coordinator) for the MA Anthropology students. In very brief summary, I need to collect feedback from students, talk to the teaching staff and the Students' Union about it, and see how we can improve the student experience. Now, this Student Engagement training was meant for DSCs but also for other student leaders (e.g. society presidents) which made it very generic and not always relevant. The training itself... I must admit... wasn't very useful for me.
HOWEVER, we had pizza at the end. That's where the magic happened. It was super useful to talk to other DSCs and student reps and just generally other students. I met some awesome people today. Those 30 minutes at the end of the session were fun and engaging. And that, my friends, is an example of *informal* learning.
I'm on the bus now, going home to grab my YOGA MAT!
Emotional check-in: I was feeling a little drained during the training, but the conversations at the end refreshed me. I'm currently feeling energised and excited.
P.S. It's a bit strange for me to check-in with myself like this, but it's interesting. I hope I'll normalise this and do it more often.
