Started (and almost finished) another book

I gave in and started another book. I wanted to stay outside today and read, but my eReader started to get a bit warm (not really the device itself, but rather its cover - black in the sun…). So I took the thinnest little book that I have right now and started reading it. ‘Ciuleandra’ by Liviu Rebreanu.

It’s a kind of psychological thriller, only a hundred and something pages long. The focus is on this middle/upper-class man who murders his wife. Really, the book reveals the corruption in society and how the bourgeoisie expects everything to happen their way. It’s a messed up story and I love it for that. It was published in 1927, but it remains painfully accurate a century later.

Apparently, ‘Ciuleandra’ is also one of the very few Romanian books that have been translated into English. So, if you’re curious to check out Romanian literature, feel free to start with this one. Rebreanu was an excellent writer, I must admit. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Ciuleandra-Liviu-Rebreanu/dp/4908793492
