Music in the Streets - DAY 3

Don’t listen to a word I say

The screams all sound the same

And though the truth may vary

This ship will carry our bodies safe to shore’

This is the chorus of ‘Little Talks’ by Of Monsters and Men, a song that J and I enjoy playing a lot and that we will be singing at Music in the Streets - LIVE. As we were rehearsing a bit this morning, their meaning hit me.

Don’t listen to a word I say

I’m complaining, but at the same time, I am so proud of what we’re doing right now.

‘The screams all sound the same

I’m tired. I’m stressed. We are trying to find a way to fill in all the slots for the concert tomorrow. This morning we were both so close to a mental breakdown.

And though the truth may vary

No one else is complaining about this. The feedback we’re getting is simply great. It’s hard for me to believe it, but I guess my standards are just way too high. We used to do this with a team of youth workers & volunteers, now it’s just me, J, and Tom (via Zoom).

‘This ship will carry our bodies safe to shore’

We’ll get through this. We’ll learn all the lessons we need to learn. And next time we do this, it will be much better.
