Meeting another awesome London not-for-profit

You have no idea how excited, motivated, and pumped I feel after a meeting with another awesome London not-for-profit. They’re called the Young Lewisham Project. Maurice and I went to their hub in Catford today to talk about collaborating with them, but for me, it was more than that.

I finally had the opportunity to ask my main UK Youth Work question - do I need to get qualified ASAP or can that wait until later. The short answer is, it can wait. I still want to get qualified here, just I physically don’t have the time now and I am eager to start doing stuff. Plus seeing all the young people moving around today reminded me how much I miss being close to them and working alongside youth. DEIS UK and youth work - here we come!

You know, THIS is why I volunteer and love the world of not-for-profits, even if it’s not a money-maker. You connect with people who are there to support you and help you grow. I had this since 2016 with DEIS, back in Romania, and I have this here, in the UK, with Collab since 2020. I made so many connections, I am getting to know more and more people, and this helps me enormously. So, if you see a volunteering opportunity or an unpaid internship or work experience role, don’t run away from them if you can invest the time. This is the way to grow.
