The writer human insisted that she appears in today’s picture as a reminder that this is her B-Side Blog and her daily posts are usually the Adventures of the Muddy Shoes. Slightly rude, if you ask me.

Every passing year adds to the long reign of our species. It is an honour to play such an essential role in l'histoire de l'univers*. What I dislike about this day, however, is that some human specimens celebrate with loud explosions. This is extremely distressing for myself and many other creatures.

I shall wish you to be rather careful in the coming year as it seems that the human race has been quite thoughtless especially since the new decade began.
