Life of a youth worker - busy, tiresome, but rewarding and definitely worth it

These two weeks, my days have been starting at 8 am. By 10 I am at the Youth Centre. After noon, the young people would start showing up and then we'd do stuff - workshops, discussions, intercultural activities, but also music, board games or... basketball. The day ends at 10 or 11 pm, after thinking about any plans for the next day (hence forgetting to post this yesterday).

I'm tired, but happy. It's tiresome to match your energy levels to those of young people, to think all the time, to be there for them. However, it's just a physical tiredness that can be fixed with a bit of sleep, coffee, and a couple of hours of reading. But more than tired, I feel happy. It's the satisfaction of doing something right. Being someone who tells a young person that they are good enough. Listening to them open up. Knowing that one day they might remember exactly what you told them. And that helps me recharge.
