Just reading today

I missed a day completely dedicated to reading. I mean, not completely - I spoke to my parents in the morning, did a bit of cooking, and now I’m writing this, but other than that, I am just reading today.

I am more than halfway through ‘Anna Karenina’ and I can’t help but wonder when things will go wrong again because right now everything seems fine. I definitely wouldn’t have been able to read this a few years ago, but now I understand that I don’t really need to read the whole book word for word and allow myself to do that. I’m not really interested in Russian agriculture, for example, so I just scan the page and move on.

My reading style has changed a lot over the years. I was telling my parents earlier that I am now at a point where I can read anything and ‘judge’ a book by its content, technique, structure etc., not by the action, ending, or the long descriptive passages. I should maybe give ‘White Fang’ another try at some point - I loved an animated film made after Jack London’s book, but never finished the book. I would also love to get back to Jules Verne - ‘Around the World in Eighty Days’ was one of the first books I’ve read because I was a huge fan of the cartoon series and wanted to read the original as well. I’m curious how my perception has changed.
