I am starting to work on my first novel

I already wrote a good page of world-building, just allowing ideas to flow onto the keyboard and into my laptop. I’m writing a dystopian world in which young people (16 - 24) are considered a threat to society and therefore they are forbidden to do anything without strict supervision.

It’s definitely an anxiety narrative - the type of text I like to read and experiment with. And like any good piece of dystopia, it is an exaggeration of reality. The youth sector is underfunded, teenage is a very powerful, but also unstable time of life, computers and algorithms are taking over decision making, and adults/politicians/people in positions of power are not as capable as we would like to think.

For the course, I only have to write a 1000-word synopsis and a 6000-word extract. But I will work hard to actually finish it and, why not, get it published. In my short stories, I like to talk about delicate topics, I make them powerful and often disturbing. My novels will be the same. But if I have so many words to talk about something, I want to use those words to talk about youth and youth work, until all people understand what this is all about.
