How much more research is there for me to do?

While I love doing research, I can’t help but wonder if there is something wrong with me and the topics that I’m interested in or is there generally very little research done on anything…

I’m writing an essay about stream of consciousness in two contemporary novels and I need to put my discussion in a historical/theoretical context. There are plenty of resources on stream of consciousness, but they don’t really touch on how it changed and evolved. These two books have nothing to do with Virginia Woolf or James Joyce. Woolf and Joyce have nothing to do with each other either. My own writing has nothing to do with any of the above. But still, everyone is standing under this giant umbrella. Why does no one go into the details???

After I finish this, I’m moving on to my project on international detective fiction. Another fun one with little to no previous research to back me up. How did a 21-year-old end up filling in so many gaps in critical theory?
