Extra creative art

Generations change, we need different things to attract us and to keep us engaged. I’m not a major visual art fan - I think I invested too many brain cells in my passion for literature and youth work and other areas related to them. Art is pretty, but I don’t understand the symbols or the meaning of colours. However, if art comes with a twist, you get a chance at my attention.

We went to the Van Gogh: The Immersive Experience exhibition. I don’t know much about Van Gogh - just that he painted ‘Starry Night’ plus a few other things and that he cut his ear off. But while we sat in a room with his paintings surrounding us (literally) I learned about his mental health struggles, his inspiration coming from dreams, and the different stages of his art.

I will never learn about art in a ‘traditional’ way. I’d study a painting only if it would be important to the plot of a story - for example, I know Klimt’s ‘The Kiss’ because it starred in Claudia Gray’s ‘Evernight’ series - and even then, I’d ask Jeanine to tell me about it, I wouldn’t really look it up. But I would gladly absorb some information outside the box.
