Books are my personal charger

I read on public transport, I read when I finish work, I read whenever I have a bit of spare time. I do other things too, but reading is usually my first choice. It helps me charge. In busy weeks, books help me gain at least a bit more energy for tomorrow, and a bit more, and a bit more.

I had a very tiresome week. Or rather my personal batteries were at 70%. In the last couple of weekends I had other things to do and so I couldn’t just forget about the world and read. I kept adding 5%, 10%, 25%, but I couldn’t get to 100%. And it shows. But today I could finally read.

I try to use Saturdays for dissertation work. I didn’t go to the British Library in the last couple of weeks because right now I’m reading. When I have to write and/or research, I’ll go back. The book I’m starting with is Joyce’s ‘A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man’ - and I will be using it in my first chapter, defining youth. I’ve read it many years ago, but I’m wondering how much did I understand then? It’s a complex book for the novice reader I was then, but it means so much more to me now. I really like Joyce.
