Bonus: ‘A Christmas Carol’ by Charles Dickens

Mary’s Diary, Exile, Day 4, Christmas Day

Yesterday, as a so-called festive treat, I was fed a small meal of gravy wet-food. Exquisite. Me, I am not easy to impress, but mon Dieu* that was unexpected. I have also been left alone today - the humans do not seem to be at home. What a Festive Miracle!

* fr. my God

I put this on the list as a challenge, an extra reading. It was also a challenge because I didn’t know if I was going to like it or not. And at the same time this was a challenge for my literary maturity - for a long time books and films couldn’t co-exist for me. It was one or the other. But recently, because I am starting to understand that some techniques can only be used in writing, I am starting to understand and appreciate the differences.

This novella was exactly what I needed to reconnect Past, Present, and Future in my soul.

“I will honour Christmas in my heart, and try to keep it all the year. I will live in the Past, Present, and the Future. The Spirits of all Three shall strive within me.”
