Between bits of research there must be time for literature
Sometimes, my reading time needs to be split between many things. Right now for example, I've got two books on my phone - my "on the go" readings - research for that ethnographic report, and "Brave New World". Of course, this means that it takes longer to finish each book, although I'm probably reading more pages than ever. I tried to stay away from parallel reading for so long and look where it got me...
I finished "Folk Devils and Moral Panics" and I'm waiting for another research book to arrive early next week. As soon as I finish reading that, I'm good to go with the writing. But in the meantime, I took some time for a little traditional literature. I made myself extra comfy on our sofa and I'm just reading, drinking tea.
Thoughts on BNW - a very interesting thought exercise. My editon has an introduction by Huxley talking about some of the real-world changes that happened in the decade after publication. This, combined with our own "new" world, makes everything even more messed up. In a world of algorithms, what's a little pre-conditioning? Right?
