Authors that you know

Reading books by authors you know personally is so different from just reading. You may think I’m talking about something like autobiographical elements or connections to real life, but that’s just a very small part of it.

I’m reading ‘Lucia’ by Alex Pheby, my short story writing prof. It’s really interesting to see his writing. This is a modernist text, so I’m reading it because I like the style and also because I want to learn more about it. He shared some of his ideas and techniques with us so it is so much easier to understand the process behind the writing.

I wonder if I will ever miss just reading without analysing and looking further than the pages. Or, rather, if I ever just read. Maybe I was always trying to go deeper than the text, I just didn’t know how to do it or what I was looking for. I’ll keep you updated on this thought.
