An interesting book
I got this book as a gift before I left for the UK in August 2019. It’s been waiting for me to pick it up for a while, and now with the Orthodox/Romanian Easter coming up next Sunday, I felt it was the right time to start.
Originally written in Portuguese, ‘The Gospel According to Jesus Christ’ is basically a re-telling of Jesus’ life similar, I’d say, to the one written by the Master in the Russian novel ‘The Master and Margarita’. So far I’m fascinated by how José Saramago describes the beliefs and lifestyle of people in Jesus’ time. Of course, it’s a very controversial book. That’s why it’s been gifted to me.
It’s books like this that make me mad that I don’t know all the languages in the world. I am reading a Romanian translation and I can’t help but wonder how it differs from the original version…
