A book I read really quick
I started this book on the train to Brighton on Saturday and finished it on Sunday. It’s a short book and the style is very similar to my favourite Romanian author - Petronela Rotar’s - ‘O să mă știi de undeva’ (You’ll know me from somewhere)
(I wrote a bit about it here)
It combines prose with poetry. It’s a story about… a crow. And grief and loss.
I absolutely loved Max Porter’s writing - the language, the stylistic choices, the [insert fancy literary terms like assonances and alliterations]. My favourite was Crow. I actually felt the need to read Crow’s passages out loud, they sounded so good.
‘Grief is the Thing with Feathers’ - Max Porter
‘The Year of Magical Thinking’ - Joan Didion
‘O să mă știi de undeva’ (You’ll know me from somewhere) - Petronela Rotar
Beautiful books. I haven't truly met grief yet and I like how these books are for me, like reading about something magical. Something sublime. I’m scared of the day I’ll come back to them with Crow by my side…
