A bit angry, disappointed, but somehow I was expecting it

This is about ebooks (and Google Books).

Context: I have 2 Gmail accounts - one is my main, created many years ago, but on which I cannot change my location from RO to the UK, and the other one I made so I can access/download UK-only apps.

This morning I was looking for the second and third volumes of Octavia Butler’s ‘Xenogenesis’ trilogy. And since I really enjoyed reading the first volume on my e-reader, I thought I’d continue there. I only had my main Gmail account so I could only see the (astronomical) prices of around 120 RON (approx. £20).

They were more expensive than physical books! I didn’t buy them.

Then, I looked for the ‘Hannibal Lecter’ franchise (a colleague mentioned it today and I have a friend who’s a really huge fan, so I am tempted to read them). Nothing. Not available in Romania. I added my other Gmail account and there they were, all four of them for £8.99. ‘Xenogenesis’ - £4.99 for volume 2 and £4.99 for volume 3. The prices I’d expect for an ebook.

I am angry and disappointed to see this HUGE price difference. But somehow I was expecting it. It’s all about supply and demand… I know lots of people who read, but I also know too many people who don’t - not enough time, no interest, no patience (which I totally understand) or (the worst of all) not enough money. And how can you blame any of them?...
