24. ‘A Christmas Tree and a Wedding’ by Fyodor Dostoievski

Mary’s Diary, Exile, Day 3, Christmas Eve

So much hustle and bustle in this house today! Every human seems to be engaged in some sort of activity - cooking, cleaning, whatsoever. I, however, cannot be bothered by this whole festive cheer. Je préfèrer dormir.* My cushion has been placed strategically under the tree. I take it that the humans feel honoured that I spend my Holidays with them.

I presume I shall wish something to everyone reading these entries. I wish you tolerable holidays.

* fr. I prefer sleeping

What did I just read? It was probably a funny story for 1848 Russia. Anyway, let's appreciate that Dostoievski doesn't seem too happy about this predicament either.

This is the last of my Christmas story collection, sparked with all sorts of experiences. There is however one more novella, bonus, to end in a more festive tone. Creepy, but Festive.
