21. ‘Reginald’s Christmas Revel’ by Saki
Mary’s Diary, Exile, Day 0
Uhm… I have been asked to write here… My writing is exquisite, but my process is special. Why of course I will try my best to document my Exile anyway. I am Mary. The Chatte.*
Anyway, I seem to have been left in this place called Wool-itch with a group of individuals. A photographer, an engineer, and a writer/youth worker. The latter mentioned applying for some sort of a Master programme in that youth thing, but I don’t really understand how this works. We, chattes, are born masters.
I have also been asked to read a short story. I did not formerly know the author, but I was surprised that he had to experience Holidays with some humans he didn’t really like. I presume it was a warning for my own upcoming experience. I will make my Assistant pay dearly for leaving me here.

This collection seems to be extremely diverse when it comes to Christmas experiences. So far, we had happy stories, scary stories, wholesome stories, heartbreaking stories...and now, this is a story about spending your Christmas with some people because you have to, not because you enjoy their presence. I haven't had too many of these, but as a teenager, I have to admit I had times when I was really bored and disconnected from some festive visits. It's easy to relate to this story.
